Scharlooweg 81
Function: office
At this location there was a small house as early as the nineteenth
century. In 1887 David Baiz had the former modest dwelling completely
renovated and enlarged. The plan of the house was fairly similar to the
one of Scharlooweg 61. It has a core with a front and a back gallery,
whereas at the rear there were two small wings with a narrow patio in
between. However, the core of Scharlooweg 81 does not have two complete
stories but an attic with dormers. Adjacent to the outer sidewall of the
western wing is a cistern. Typical are the three entrance doors in the
façade, which lead to the front gallery.
This dilapidated property was bought it in 1992. The restoration took
place in 1995 when the house was adapted to its new function as an
office building. To bring back the original shape of the house later
additions were removed. At the rear of the house the patio was covered
and transformed into office space.
