Scharlooweg 61
Function: under construction
Before After

Abraham Benjamin Jesurun has built this somewhat
modest house at the Scharlooweg between 1880 and 1900. Contrary to most
houses at the
Scharlooweg it does not have a large garden in front, but
is situated relatively
close to the street.
The plan of the house consists of a core with a front and a back
gallery, which is typical of the Curaçaoan plantation house. The core
has two stories. At
the rear there were two wings with a narrow patio in
between.
Since 1994 Stadsherstel has been the owner of this
house. Two years later it was restored and adapted to the function as an
office building. Because
that the space in the house was inadequate,
the small patio at the rear has been covered and
transformed into office space.
To obtain more space the
two-storied modern
staircase was added at the western
sidewall of the house, which leads to the second
floor of the core.
