This house is the main building of the yard 'Kurá
di Shon Ki'. It is situated on the so called 'seru" (hill) of Otrobanda,
close to the Breedestraat. The
baroque curved gables as well as a date
at the back of the house (most likely 1729) indicate that the building
goes back to the early 18th century.
Therefore, it has to be one of the
oldest structures on the hill of Otrobanda. The plan of the house is
typical of the Curacao plantation houses consisting
of a core and a
gallery. The yard is called after the Kikkert family, which owned the
place in the 19th century. Contrary to common opinion the first
governor
Albert Kikkert never lived here.
Stadsherstel acquired the building in 1997. The building will be
restored possible in 2010 - 2012. The house has two stories and is
located in the middle
of the rather spacious yard of 4000 m2.
