According to historic information, this large,
three-storied dwelling house was built in 1852. It is located on the
hill of Otrobanda, at a short distance from
the Breedestraat. Typical of
the Curacao building style is the ground plan consisting of a core with
galleries at the front and at the backside. The core
and the rear
gallery are the higher parts, whereas the front gallery - consisting of
two floors only - is lower. The high saddle roofs and the lower gallery
covered with a lean-to roof are characteristic of the architectural
style on the island in the middle of the 19th century. The wooden
balcony on Tuscan
pillars in front was a distinctive feature in Otrobanda in the old days. A unique and quite charming aspect of this
house is the portico-loggia addition on
the western side gable. The
portico corresponds with the first floor and the loggia belongs to the
second floor. On the rear of the premises are two small
outbuildings.
Stadsherstel bought this property in 1997. The townhouse was renovated
in 1997. The main building contains three living quarters.
